On April 6, 2026, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City issued Decision No. 2024/QD-UBND approving the plan to organize a competition for the "Architectural design of the overpass on the main route and other overpass components at the intersection of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and Ring Road 3" under Component Project 2: Construction of the Cat Lai - Phu Huu inter-port road - intersection of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and Ring Road 3.
The goal of the competition is to find the optimal architectural design for the project, which is highly feasible, unique, modern, distinctive, and creates a landmark in the eastern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City.
The scope of the architectural competition covers the entire route, approximately 5.9 km long, from the intersection with Nguyen Thi Dinh Street to the interchange between the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway and the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 (HLD interchange). The project is expected to include the Bà Cua Bridge with 10 lanes; an elevated bridge from Phú Hữu Port to SP-ITC Port with 4 lanes; and an elevated bridge from SP-ITC Port to the expressway interchange with 6 lanes.
The competition is open to design consulting firms with experience in architecture, planning, and bridge and road transportation. Participating firms will be evaluated based on their capabilities and design outputs. The competition council will select the most optimal solution to submit to the City People's Committee for approval.
The competition is expected to last 85 days after the plan is approved. The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (TCIP) will be responsible for providing necessary documents and information to the bidding units, ensuring that the competition process runs smoothly and in accordance with regulations.
